ETM Replacement (Eletronic Throttle Module)

I installed (QTY 2) new ETM and downloaded new software (2000 S80)

Now I get a code in the CEM "CEM-1A5D Communication with ETM control module;signal missing;Permanent fault"

I am not able to read ETM serial # so I assume code is correct?

If I install the original ETM there is no code and I can read old ETM serial #

VADIS possible source -(The electronic throttle module (ETM) is not intended for this car (for example a used control module with different software/hardware).

    ETM Replacement (Eletronic Throttle Module)

You installed (QTY 2?) Electronic Throttle Module? I would read that as quantity 2, and that's obviously not what you mean since there is only one ETM. Okay, so you have VADIS, and WSDA, and the VCT2000 with all of its related cables. The download is part # 9438290; Replace software in ETM (Electronic Throttle Module) $30.00; was the download complete? or did it stop midstream? On occasion I have had the problem with the download not being completed since the software apparently upgrades the ECM and the CEM since they all "talk" together. If it can't establish the communication with one of the other modules, the download stops, and then the fun begins...

You purchased a new ETM? With the same part number? I had one customer bring in an obviously previously replaced ETM (yellow), purchased as used from a salvage yard, which we know had to have had the software download or the car wouldn't have left the yard to be wrecked. However, it wouldn't work on the car until we installed a software upgrade.

I'd start a help thread with volvotechinfo, get a credit on the download, and start over...

    Hope this helps,

    Chris

      ETM Replacement (Eletronic Throttle Module)

I am on my second (New) ETM same car

The very first download did stop. I restarted download "stated complete"
but car ran poor with code in cem (CEM-1A5D) I tried again with good download same code in CEM. This time tried upgrade software same code.

I tried both downloads. Replacing the Node, and Not replacing the node.I would assume replacing Node would be complete ETM software. and not replacing Node would be up grade?

I have replaced many ETM's I have never had a problem.

Is it true once ETM is pluged into car it belongs to that car only?

At this point I put old ETM back in car and installed (not replacing node) upgrade ETM software. There is no codes in CEM.

        ETM Replacement (Eletronic Throttle Module)

This is the very same code that I got one time on a 2001 S80T6. I reset the system, reloaded the software, and really wondered if the problem I was trying to fix wasn't the ETM, but something to do with the CEM...but...I had gotten all of those codes for internal fault with the ETM...

Anyhow, WSDA has been having problems witht their server for the past couple of days. I would have questions about the "completeness" of any software download. I purchased "five" downloads yesterday, and completed "one". I purchased "six" downloads today, and completed "two". So was the download complete? All you can really do is guess.

Lastly, no, once an ETM is on a car, and programmed to that car, it does not have to stay on that car for forever and ever amen. When installing it onto a different car you just have to reload the software so that all of the electronic modules know that it belongs there. Don't you simply LOVE this CAN network stuff?!

Were you replacing with a new (rebuilt) module, or were you replacing it with mystery meat?

        Chris

          ETM Replacement (Eletronic Throttle Module)

I have been using VOLVO TechInfo Help. They had me reload software in the CEM with the old ETM connected. Then install new ETM and reload ETM software. When reloading CEM the car goes asleep, I was about ready to abort then the download started. No one stated I needed all car keys and remotes. This car refuses to leave. I am begining to understand why the techs at the dealer are sick of this.

The CEM now can see the ECM. Now all I need is key and remote software. I went looking for key and remote software and found out there is a price increase in the last two hours and VIDA is the future?

One more download the car will be gone?

All of this is a convenience to the customer, there is no money in it.

          Mark

    you need the dealer

Do you have vadis and vct2000 hardware with you? if not, then you can't download software to the the cars ECU.

The dealer can do the software download for a nominal charge. The download entails erasing the old SN with the new SN from the new ETM

I have all what is needed to do downloads. I have replaced many ETM's. This is the first time I have had a problem. The dealer is working with me. They also asked me not to send this car to them.
