Looking to buy '95 850 with stick 850 1995

Got my eye on a '95 sedan with a 5-speed. 155,000 kms, about $4000 cdn.

The dealer says brakes pulsate (i figure it's rear rotors) and it needs tires and one headlight lens for safety.

I presume the stick is better on durability than the auto, ans that the n/a motor is less complicated that the turbo.

Any real sour spots for me to look for b4 unloading my trusty '91 240 to move to the '95 850?

KenC

91 240 206,000 kms, cosmetically challenged, mechanically sound.

You are going to love the 850. Just keep in mind it is not rear wheel drive when you plan on hanging the rear out going around a sharp bend.
You eliminated the biggest headache by getting a 5sp. Yeah, the AC tends to leak slowly - just add more r134a. And don't tinker with this one like you used to on your 240, the 850 just wants to be driven :)

Lots of 850 owners have had to pay $1K+ to fix leaky ac condensers. You may be facing this expense although aftermarket install of a ventilation air intake filter can prevent or greatly delay the problem. Have this checked out thoroughly by an independent ac shop. Detached rear spring bumpers and worn out engine "front" motor mounts are also common.

I agree with Lee. Buy the 850!

I have a '95 850 which has been utterly reliable. 195,900 miles and still going strong. Multiple accidents (none were my responsibility) Original clutch, alternator, water pump, CV joints. I have changed all the normal stuff.

If you don't take the '95, I would be interested if I were a little closer...

I would keep the 240 and buy the 850.

I strongly recommend buying one. I bought my 850 5spd new in 95 and it is the best car I have ever owned. Including Toyotas, Nissans & VW's. The car now has 160 + K miles on it and it purrs down the road. The only problem I have had under warrenty was the horn relay sticking. The A/C still works great and no electrical or mechanical problems. Good luck with it hopefully the maintenace has been done on the car your looking at.
