Onboard location of lock receiver 850 1995

When I bought this great car, the key fob to lock/unlock the doors didn't work. I assumed incorrectly that it was the battery. The dealer checked and mumbled something about it being the receiver in the car, not the key fob. Now my daughter wants to drive to school and would like to use the key fob - it's cool!
Where is this part located on the car? Could I replace it with a 1997 receiver? Does this part have a number and a real name?

Thanks for your help,
Klaus

Rather then change out receiver maybe look into fob the matches car?

As I understand there are a couple different styles of fobs and they are not compatible. I would get a better description of problem from dealer or mechanic before replacing receiver. Fobs aren't too bad on ebay.

For 1995 850 which is what I have too, the receiver is located next to the Glove compartment. You pull out the glove compartment and should see a black box mounted to the right hand side of the compartment area. That is the receiver for the central lock and alarm.

My car was a NA model, not GLT. So, no factory alarm installed. I found the receiver from ebay. You do need the starter bypass relay for the alarm though. I then bought the remote key fob from ebay too. I also bought the hood latch driver one which has the microswitch for the alarm.

I think the 95 alarm is the early version and 97 alarm is more advance version and may not work with 95 wiring.

Hey Klaus I sent you the troubleshooting chapter out of the service manual on it. Check your email. Maybe it'll help.

Thanks Mike 850 1995

Every document I get has different locations for the transceiver. I'll find it one of these days and take it apart. Seems they fail with age and over heating in the summer sun. We shall see.

Part appears to be called "Keyless entry control module" and located in the right rear of the engine bay. Seems to be several part numbers - probably need to locate yours to get it's number. Sending a VADIS screenshot to your email...

From diagram, it looks like there are two electrical relays involved in the keyless entry also - possible culprits?

I don't know about the relays, but your info was PERFECT.
Thanks,
