blower motor problems in 850 please help 850

Well the guy I bought this from 2 days ago said the blower motor needed to be replaced, I took it out of the dash tonight and applied 12 volts to the motor, it spins up just fine.

I checked the Voltage at the connector feeding the motor and only got 6-7 volts.

Changing the fan control did not change the reading of the voltage.

I dont know if this has electronic climate control or not- theres 2 dials on the dash one for passanger one for driver, and I get the AC and REC lights blinking 18 times when I start the car.

Please help, its 16 degrees out and its supposed to be 5 degrees tommorow!!

This is interesting. If I have time tomorrow I will look at the diagram. What year is it? Typically on the ECC the voltage is constant and the ground is controlled through resistor (the gizmo mounted to the left of the motor with the cooling fins). Volvo is notorious for bad solder joints in the electronics.
Sometimes you may even read 12 volts until you put it under load then the resistance is so high at the loose pin that no current can be conducted through it.
It could be a bad relay with loads of resistance in the contacts also. Just don't know exactly. If I find out more will pass it on.

I guess cold is all relative. Next to the blower motor was a resister box which is probably bad. Did the fan work when you put it on high? An ECC unit will have temperature grades on the two comfort dials instead of red/green paint stuff.

You can also check all of your ECC codes in the engine compartment (B1). Write them down and reset them to 1-1-1. Things work better when there are no codes at all.
