Oil pan gasket 850

I need to replace my oil pan and have found that there isn't a gasket - just a sealant used. My local Volvo dealer wants $27 for a tube of this stuff! Will a generic liquid gasket product work in lieu of the dealer's stuff?

I really wouldn't think so. The normal RTV type sealants are much different than the Volvo sealant. I've not seen a comparable product at the auto parts store. My opinion would be to bite the bullet and use the Volvo sealant. It's expensive, but you should only be doing this once.
