Problem replacing interior light assembly 850 1993

Recently my son pulled the rocker switch that controls the interior lights out of the interior light assembly. In doing so, he also lost all of the contact points that allow the interior lights to function so I was unable to repair it. I pulled the assembly out and purchased a replacement from a local Volvo dealer. My problem is that when I plug the new one into the harness, I get a continuous pinging as if I had left the door open with the key in the ignition and the Low Oil warning lamp comes on and does not go off. As soon as I disconnect the new assembly, the pinging stops and the lamp goes off. There is nothing going on otherwise that should cause the pinging and the oil level is OK. Any insight that anyone could shed would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello --

I don't have an answer to your problem. In fact, I have the same problem. Broken toggle switch and now the interior lights won't work, even in the trunk. How much did you pay for the light assembly, and was it an "in stock" part? It amazes me that one little plastic piece can control so much. Even my sunroof is acting up -- opening and closing all by itself.

I now have no interior lights and it's December in New England (so dark a lot of the time! Needless to point out the problems the sunroof opening causes in the cold!) I'm gonna go to the local Volvo dealer and get the part (if they have it) but curious what it costs.

    Thanks!

    Did you cross the wires?

Check the interior of the car for a ball bearing and a tiny spring (about 1/4 inch long) along with a brass piece of metal. Those are the missing pieces of your old switch. The spring holds the bearing in place on top of the rocker. They are probably in your seat rails or right next to them. Sliding a magnet around makes it easier to find them.
