Shifter problem 850

I have a 1994 850 (automatic)that runs pretty good, but the shifter requires you to depress the shift lock out button to get you out of the park location. This problem started happening about a month ago and it would happen only now and then. In the last week you need to press the button every time.

Any advice?

    This is a classic volvo 850 fault. Your shift lock relay switch has failed. It is a $25 part which requires the removal of the center armrest console to access the wiring. Bay 13 does give a good illustration of the problem and how to fix as the previous responder indicated.
