Hi can anyone please help me we have an 850 that we have over the past three years had continual starting problems with.

Generally what happens is:
the temperature goes below freezing
notice charge in battery is reduced
often clicks but does not turnover
inevitably battery dies
often doors will lock unlock inexplicably

We have:
gone through 3 batteries
replaced alternator
nearly come to blows with our mechanic who suggests we continualluy are doing something wrong

But this continues to happen, help anyone have any ideas.

Do you have a way to determine what the current draw is when all is turned off?

That's the place I would start. Have you tried ( a PITA ) dissconnecting the battery when it's cold, and reconnecting in the morning? Do the symptome still exist?

unforunately no, it is somewhat sporatic thus we haven't tried this, we took it ino a dealership and they tried to determine where the draw was coming from but to no avail,

It seems like you could have a short somewhere or a bad cable.

Have you thoroughly cleaned the ground connection in front of the battery on the body. Mine needs to be cleaned every 6 months or so.

Since you've replaced the battery I assume those connections are good and clean too.

PNP Switch replaced?

Thanks yes iv've cleaned and checked all the connections coming to the battery posts, and the connections to the body. Although I hate to sya I don't know what a PNP switch is.

Sounds like you have a wire grounded to the frame somewhere.

The ground on the body in front of the battery may not look dirty but clean/brush/rinse/dry it anyway...best to rule that out for sure.
