Evap Emissions and missing cannister S70 1998

I have a 1998 S70 T5 and I have had ongoing problems with the CEL for the last year. I had it checked at a local shop and they said the pressure test checked out. The diagnostic code is the large leak. When I went to check the evap purge valve and the condition of the canister and it is not behind the drivers side headlight and in front of the wheel like the manual says it should be. There is a bracket there but no canister. My question is, can this system be bypassed somehow or could the canister be somewhere else on a ‘98 S70 T5. I will be contacting the technician that worked on it to see what his explanation is.

    Patrick,

If you wind up needing a new evap canister, try Erie Volvo for a recycled part. I got a canister from them this summer for my 96 855T. $25, works just right, no more CEL.

my cel came on this weekend right after i flushed the transmission fluid on my 1998 t5 sedan. there were no problems before i did the flush. the local parts store scanned the obd and read that purge valve c is open. i am calling the volvo dealer today (parts dept) to see if i can get an explanation. will update later.
