During cold starts, i smell gas fumes but goes away when engine gets warm. Keeps coming back on cold starts though. I cleaned the throttle body over the weekend. I thought it might do the trick. have to shut off vent on cold starts..sucks...tried to replace gas cap..still doin it..any inputs?

I've had similar behvior from a 98XC. It may be a
little bit of leaked oil somewhere on the engine
which smokes and burns off when you start up.
Try parking over a newspaper to see if you have a small leak.
It may be harmless.

If the fumes ONLY come in through the vents, it obviously comes from the engine compartment. Take the cover off of the fuel rail and check all of the injectors for leaks, you may have to turn the key to pos II to make sure the pressure is up. Don't expect gobbs of gas to pour out and don't use a match to find the source :)
