850 trailing arm link replacement 850

Has anyone ever replaced the trailing arm link (bushing assy) on a 94' 850? The part was $194.00 at the local dealer (ouch). Alldata has instructions that call for a special puller installer tool "999 5497 Press" to remove-install the link from the trailing arm. Just wondering if anyone has done the job with or with out the press tool. The instructions lead me to believe the job is rather simple. Raise vehicle, support trailing arm, remove front support brackets, remove link bolt (hammer if needed) drop arm to clear install puller, remove link. Reverse to install. Does one really need the puller or will some other method work?
Thanks in advance,

I've done it w/o that tool BUT you'll need a torch to melt out the old one and to install the new one w/o a press tool, you then need to grind some plastic away from the outer edge. Sure, not exactly the 100% correct way of doing that BUT it works and solves the problem.

      Thanks Ben,
Press tool I don't have, torch is available, so it appears it is possible with out the special tool. I don't have the link from the Dealer yet, special order, should be here by the end of the week. I'll inspect the link to get the idea of grinding a little plastic off.
      Thanks for the reply!
      Ozzie
