Typical Oil Consumption for 99 S70M S70

I'm trying to get a handle on how much oil consumption is normal. I've got a 99 S70NA 5-spd with 102K. I've been using 5W30 oil since I got the car at 43K about 2 years ago. Half of my driving is highway and the other half in New York Metro area gridlock. I seem to go through a quart about every 1500 miles or so. The engine is dry, no leaks or puddles.

Thanks,

Jeff

Volvo says that is just fine. Some cars never use oil, others use a little, like yours. A lot depends on how it was broken in and the tolerances at the factory. I normally use oil in all of the used cars I have bought, never those bought from new. My 1995 854T doesn't use a drop, PO was an older car nut/racer and new how to break it in. My 1998 V70R uses about 1/2 quart every 1,000 mi, PO didn't even know where the motor was.
Unless consumption of oil gets worse, don't worry about it. 5W-30 in your climate could be a little thin, try 10W30 and switch to synthetic, rush hour gridlock is hard on the motor.

I agree. My '99 S70 2.0 NA manual uses no oil whatsoever, but many use a little.

It's just a matter of luck I guess.

99 S70 5 speed, bought new meticulous (ANAL) maintainance since new. Changed oil with Mobil 1 10/30 synthetic. Has always used about 1 quart every 1,800/2000 miles. Very reliable so far. Very happy.
