Transmission slipping (going neutral )between 2nd and third gear when cold V70-XC70 2002

I have a 2002 XC70 with 90K Km (55K miles) and I love it. So far nothing negative about the car except that recently we ( in Canada ) are getting cooler mornings and when I leave home, the engine is cold and for barely a few kilometers sometimes you can feel like if the transmission was slipping or going into neutral when passing from 2nd to 3d gear. If I go in manual mode it is fine. Only in automatic mode that it does it. If I go harder on the gas pedal don't feel nothing. Also when hot it's perfect.

The car is still under warranty and I was told that it was only a computer upgrade.

Please your comments you Volvo experts.

Thanks

Volvo has developed an upgrade for this problem and has issued two service bulletins (4332 and 4346) in this regard. Further information on your car may be found at;

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot/gov/cars/problems/tsb/tsbresults

Good luck.

Both of mine do the same thing for about the first minute when they are cold.

Thanks for the input but have you heard about that certain " computer upgrade " or have you got it done. Guess not if both your cars do the same. Should it worry me.

Since you are there, I'm a VW diesel fan and it's my first Volvo and I love it. What milleage do you have on your cars. I did hear a lot about Volvo's reputation but when you never owned one, it's always a bit scarry especially when you expect to do 250,000Km ( approx 150K miles )with a car you never put to the test.

Thanks a lot

Lue,
My XC has 80K and has had a computer upgrade. It does the same as my V70 with 89K. I don't think you should worry unless someone from the Brickboard says you should.

I used to have a 740 volvo with a diesel. I liked it but it cost me more in upkeep than I paid for it.

Thanks Leon,

by the way guess you mean 80K and 89K miles and not kilometers right !

Also while you mention that, is there another forum site for Volvos because there are very few discussions regarding XC 2001 and newer. Is it because it is such a great car or just because nobody writes comments.

Thanks again,

Luc

You may want to try this website: http://www.v70xc.com/ This is the website that is solely dedicated to XC volvos. I might be wrong but I think that the website originates from somewhere in Europe. You get a lot of people who live in Europe and Australia posting their discussions. I am certain you will find that website helpful.
