I am looking to the timing belt on my car. How do I know if I have a mechanical tensioner or hydraulic one?

Mine is 1998 so it does not apply but for 1999 models like yours, the instruction is there.

'99 and newer have a mechanical tensioner.

Before you get started, make sure you know how to align the tensioner, this depends on the temp of the engine. It's not as simple as the hydraulic tensioner.

I'm pretty certain 99 is mechanical I think the change over was 3/98. Search this forum for more info.

There was a serial #................ V70-XC70 1999

cutover late in the 98 model year. My 98 V70R AWD has the fixed mechanical tensioner!!! If I saw this procedure before I may have done it myself!
Dealer price to change belt was $279 in CT. Said my tensioner and idlers were fine. Had it done at 100K.
