Transmission fluid change V70-XC70 1998

Does the IPD method of changing transmission fluid, that is, hooking a drain to the upper transmission line at the radiator, do a full drain? I have heard that it might leave some old fluid in the car. If that is the case I will go to a shop, if it works, I will do it myself. Thanks for any insight.

As a side note on this topic. I had to replace my transmisson fluid on my '99XC at 30k and 60k to correct a shuddering problem at cruising speed. The fluid was wearing out prematurely. At 60k I had the fluid flushed out and replaced with Amsoil Synthetic ATF and have had no problems at 92k miles.

Well, I did it myself using the method I mentioned in my first mail. 24 quarts (2 cases. That's all I bought)later, it is still not as clear as new, but it is at least a reasonably clear redish pink.

so long as you use enought atf, it all comes out. usually takes 20 qts to run "new atf pink" out of the cooler when you're done. good luck, chuck.
