Dash lights 850

Just got my 95 850 GLT 5spd. I have a question. On the dash where the digital clock and temp display is, is that suppose to light up with the dash lights on? Mine doesn't and I want to make sure before I take it out to replace any bulbs that are blown. Thnaks David

Yes they light up. Volvo sells a lamp kit that replaces all the illumination lamps at the instrument panel. Replacing the lamps is a bit of a chore because the entire dash has to be lifted off to get access to behind the instrument panel. Screws are found under the speaker grills, above the instrument panel and around the air ducts. There are approx. a dozen screws that need removing.
After replacing your bulbs, dim the panel from 100% brilliance to say around 90% brilliance and you will never replace a bulb again. When I purchased my new '94 850 I was replacing bulbs all the time. My mechanic gave me the advice and I havn't replaced a bulb in over five years. Funny thing, my turn signal bulbs have NEVER been replaced since new!
