Fuel Pump Leak??? 850

At the advice of fellow brickboarders, I removed the fuel pump cover in the trunk to try and determine the source of a fuel smell after fill up. I did not find the leak I thought I would. On the top of the fuel pump are three nipples, two are connected to fuel lines and the third is open. I can see and smell fuel in this third opening.

Does the fuel pump need to be replaced, or is this normal? I really would like to get rid of the fuel smell/leak after a fill up.

Thank you in advance for assistance.

I think that I replied to your Question a while back.If that opening you describe has the wiring to the pump going thru it then you need to replace the pump. Can you take a picture of it and attach it to this forum?

Thank you for the reply. I will try to get a picture tonight, but this is not where the wiring goes into the pump. On the top of the pump, there are three inlets - one is the high pressure fuel line, a second is another fuel line, and the third is not connected to anything. It is this third inlet that I can see and smell fuel in. The Haynes manual does not show anything attached to this inlet either, so I think it might be a one way air valve or something.

I will try to post a picture tonight.

      Thanks again for the reply,

      Oliver

Yes,try and send me a picture. That outlet is most likley used in other markets (for a vent?).I pulled one out of stock and that inlet/outlet is not drilled out.If yours is leaking there it must be cracked or something.

Here is the link to the fuel pump photo:

The leak appears to be in the top of the fuel pump. Is this a new fuel pump or fuel pump insert???

          Thank you in advance

          Oliver
