Hi

Could this be bad wiring??? My starter runs on half a second when I start from cold....the rest of the day it just cranks as it should.

Any ideas???

I had this with my old 740. In my case, it was a sticking starter drive. Sounded horrible, with the pinion clashing against the ring gear because the drive didn't return to its resting position after I released the key. Usually happened once on a cold start in cold weather, and was fine the rest of the day, like yours. The starter was removed and the starter drive cleaned and lubed at least once, and lube was sprayed in a couple of other times. The extra lube seemed to solve the problem; I never replaced the starter, even though the car got to about 315,000 miles.
