99 S70 AWD-BEVEL GEAR PROBLEMS?4SPD OR 5 SPD AUTO?DRIVELINE PROBLEMS?wHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR? S70

As I posted below a I am considering a AWD S70 1999 model,I am very concerned about what I have read on these models, bevel gear problems,tranny problems ect.Is there a year where things get better?My wife would like the awd in the snow verses our two 740 models but I don't want to have a lemon either-HELP!

      I believe the 01s were the first year to use Haldex. Very good system, haven't heard of any issues at all.

    I agree with the other post that recommends FWD with snow tires. I just sold a '98 S70 FWD with 150,000 mi. With a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks, it was virtually unstoppable in snowy or icy conditions. My advice: Buy a certified used '00 S70 GLT and buy a set of Blizzaks from the Tire Rack. You won't regret it.

    The thing that ruins the bevel gear is tires that dont match in circumference.If you buy this model,make sure the tires are all matching in not only brand but size.If they are not,I would pass on it.Starting in 02 or 03 Volvo started using a different make of A.W.D. that is not sensitive to tire circumference.
