Starter removal; do have to tap starter off locating pin? 850 1996

Now that I have two starter bolts out (about 180 deg apart) it looks like there may be a locating pin at front top. Is this true and if so do I have to tap the start off this pin to remove it?

This is my first 850 starter project (son's car). What a difference in room and effort compared to my old 940 and 740 starter removal.

Thanks for any help.

Gary

Starter removal; do have to tap starter off locating pin? 850 1996

There are 2 primary bolts holding the starter to the block. In addition, there is another bolt at the rear of the starter retaining the starter bracket to the block (some people miss this one and cannot figure out why the starter will not come out). The starter will come out from the top.

Usually dont have to tap the starter off the pin, but sometimes they do stick a bit. Did you remove the bracket at the rear of the starter? Metal bracket bolted to starter and block.
