Dash problem after evaporator replacement 850 1997

Hello All,

I've just picked up our baby after having the evaporator replaced.

The good news is that the AC works, the old evaporator was very much toast. Now the bad news...

The top portion of the dash is popped out and doesn't line up. Following photos show the problem far better than I can describe it:

I'm meeting with the boss of the shop in the morning but the fellow who did the job has told him that it is sun warped and that there is no clip to hold it in. Basically he is telling his boss that it was like it when it came in - which it wasn't.

Does anyone have the solution or know what has been done wrong to cause this?

No, but; if your car alledgedly had that problem when it came in, why wasn't that noted by the shop?

Fortunately I have photos of the interior from a couple of weeks ago so there is no issue about what it was like when I took it in.

The main problem with this whole evaporator issue is how the car will be in the long term once the dash has been removed and replaced. I was worried about squeaks and rattles - I never thought that I would need photos so I'm glad I have them and will photograph everything from now on.

I'm assuming that it will be fixed but am concerned as the piece that is sticking out is very stiff and 'wants' to stick out.

Its not uncommon for A/C repair shops to butcher the dash when replacing the evaporator on the 850. Yes there will be rattles, maybe even some electrical smoke if you're lucky, from wires chaffing and shorting out. Clips and screws left out, who needs them if you can't see 'em from the driver's seat right? If you can work on the car yourself you are better off removing the dash cover yourself and replacing the clips than taking it back to the same shop that dorked it up in the first place. I'll email you the information on the instrument panel and removing the dash cover and you can see if it's something you want to straighten out on your own.
