Are all S80 transmissions bad. Do problems occur more with turbo or non turbo?

The turbo cars are fitted with the General Motors hand-grenade gearbox. The non-turbo cars are equipped with a Japanese-built Aisin Warner gearbox that works well and is reliable.

My brother-in-law had to have a tranny replaced on a 2.9 under warranty.

All the six cylinder engines are GM tranny. Only the 5 cyl are A/W! Turbo (or not) is not a factor.

Hi Malcolm,

I understand that the first couple of model years were deplorable, but they have gotten much better due to software and probably other mechanical design upgrades. These are GM transmissions, or at least the early ones were. Anyone else?
