Hi All,

Have a 2001 V70 XC in white. I've been noticing a rust like staining showing through the long trim that runs parallel to the roof rail troughs. This trim feels like plastic. Pretty disapointing in a 4 year old car that's garaged out of the sun when not in use.

Anyone tackle the problem of buffing out, replacing, etc?

    Unfortunately, a somewhat common problem. They need to be periodically treated with a good plastic protectant to make them last. Putting your car through a "touch-type" car wash can cause the wear much sooner. They cost about $100 each side at Volvo. Some people have had good luck by striping off the pealing plastic and painting the trim. An Indy near me does it frequently and says they last much better than the originals. They do the job for about $50 each side.

      Have the same problem. Wrote to Volvo HQ with pictures, they referred me to dealer and replacements and installation will be free. We'll probably sell the car in about six months anyway (I'm lusting after a 2005 Acura RL and we have a '04 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD Limited minivan for lugging kids/dog around. The replacement might help resale/tradein by a few dollars.

    Some dealers have replaced them for free. Mine will not replace them. A real shame for an obvious defect and pretty cheap on Volvo's part.

      I had the same thing on my 2001 T5. The dealer here in Ontario, Canada noticed it during regular maint and replaced it under warrantee. I was very pleased that they picked up on it as my warrantee is due to run out soon. The new Ones are a perfect color match.
