tracs off light without abs light, check engine and coolant issues. 850

I just bought a 96' 850 Wagon with a manual transmission and 135k miles. I got it for a good price but it needs a little work. Here are the issues I have found so far:

1) The TRACS OFF light is on and I cannot turn it off (and turn tracs on) by pushing the button. The ABS light is NOT on which seems to be a common problem in combination with the tracs off light. Could this be a relay or fuse of some sort?

2) The heater core or the seals for the hoses going into the heater core need to be replaced. I get a coolant smell and foggy windows when I turn the heater on.

3) This may or may not be related to #2. I have wet carpet in the back seat floor area on the drivers side but not in the front seat. It does not seem to be coolant (maybe really watered down?) but it also has not rained recently. I don't have a sun-roof either.

4) Check engine light came on while teaching my girlfriend how to drive a stick. The light is still there after driving around town a while. What are my options for reading the error codes?

I dont have a manual for the car yet. Is there any way to get ahold of the factory repair manuals from Volvo? I usually work on my own cars and don't mind really getting into them as long as its not too cold out.

Besides these problems I love the car, it drives well, has plenty of power and I got 33 mpg on the way back from picking it up in NH. Please let me know if you have any advise for the problems listed.

Thank you

Seth

AutoZone will read the codes for you for free. They used to clear them as well, but won't do that any more in TN, probably nationwide (a legal matter).

There are plenty of sites that will tell you what the codes are, but if you can't figure out where to go after you get the code and description, there is a good chance that someone on this site has grappled with the problem and will offer their experience and advice.

Here is one site with the codes and descriptions on it:
