Installing side marking lights. Somebody please help! 850 1997

Shipped my 97 wagon to Norway, and needed to install the side marking lights because of the traffic circles. Bought Volvo's kit (at no small expense), punched up Volvospeed.com to see how it was done, and proceeded. Quickly discovered two things Volvospeed did not cover: The four leads that came with the (European) kit were two short by two feet to reach from the side markers to the wire harness disconnect of the turn signals. There's a nice one-inch hole in the inside edge of the front fenders where the wires will reach (they're one meter long), but they obviously expect you to Scotch connect another two feet onto their leads to reach the turn signals.

The second problem though, is the fact that the marker lights have two contact leads (both white in the kit I got), the turn signal connector three leads. On the left side the turn signal leads are white black green, and on the right side, gray black blue/green. I want to hook the marker lights up to the turn signal lights, not the parking lights (it's a two element bulb). I got somewhat clever, grabbed two paper clips and a twelve-volt bulb, and proceeded to determine which circuit it was of the three. With the turn signal lamps disconnected, you get a very rapid blipping sound, about twice the frequency of the turn signal lamp when it is connected. When I stuck the ends of the two paper clips into two of the three female leads at the turn signal connection and laid my bulb across the two leads, I got a very rapid blinking interval. There are three possibilities, so I tried the other two possibilities and got another with a rapidly blinking interval, and a third with no light at all. None of the possiblities yield the slow steady turn signal interval. But after a few more combinations attempts I managed to burn out the bulb. Right now I'm at an impasse. Can somebody please PLEASE tell me which of the three turn signal leads I should connect the two leads from the side marking lights to, in order to have them blink and not come on steadily in the parking light mode. Many thanks in advance. Dick

I bought my markers off ebay....I called IPD (Portland OR) and they were gracious enough to send me a photcopy of the instructions. The installation went flawless......good luck!

This may not help, but it's what I did without much trouble. Worst part was getting the emblems off and the goop that hold them

2 wires 850 1997

I used 2 wires to the side marker, one is groud on the turn signal the other is power, I turned the turn signal on & tapped the wires, to see which ones blink at the same pace as turn signal. thats how I did it, not sure about fast blink. A fast blink is usually caused by a burt bulb or bulb of different rating in the circuit make sure all bulbs in the circuit are same brand & wattage.

Hope this helps
