Do I have to bleed brakes if replacing pads only? S70

Its a long story but I need to replace just my fairly new, cheap, front disk pads.
on a '98 , S70, 2.5l, FWD, auto, non turbo machine.
Will I be able to replace the pads without having to bleed the air out?
Not going to touch the calipers.
Thanks.

Agree with John on no bleeding should be necessary. You will have to "touch the caliper" though as after removing the old pads, you'll need to retract the pistons in the caliper in order to get enough room to get the new pads in. I use a large c clamp or big pair of channel lock pliars. As the piston moves back, the level of brake fluid will rise in the master cylinder. Take care it doesn't overflow as you may get air in the system and then you'll have to bleed them and air in an ABS is a nightmare.

Jason is right. The way I do this is to remove the cap on the Master Brake Cylinder and cover the Master Brake Cylinder with a plastic bag. Then close the hood. You don't want to get any brake fluid on your paint or it will destroy the paint and this is a good way to avoid that. Removal of the cap will release any back pressure when you push the pistons in.

No, you don't nned to bleed the brake is you're not opening the lines.

It's rec to flush the brake fluid every 2 to 3 years though.
