motormounts

whenever i go over some nasty road, i get noises coming from the right side of front of my s70. on normal/bad surfaces i usually cannot hear the noise, but when the road really sucks - i hear nasty noises. my front suspension is new, sway bars, struts, springs - all just replaced. was wondering if maybe the problem was motor mounts - and where are all the motormounts? is there one in the right side of the engine bay?

the sound almost seems to be coming from the dash - but i really do not know how one would fix a dash rattle. any thoughts?

Did you also replace the swaybar end links. When bad they tend make noise over large bumps and rough surfaces. Known to be a problem area in 850's.

Yes. replaced them. thinking it might be front engine mount, will check this weekend on lift. also thinking it might be part of supersprint exhaust banging against something - will check.

I don't think you have a motor mount problem, if the motor mounts are gone you can either feel the engine flexing under acceleration (top mount) or the engine will visibly sit too low in the chassis (remaining mounts).

Did you replace your upper strut mounts? If not do this asap. There are several screws that hold the dash to the chassis, mine were loose when I bought the car and the dash did rattle like mad on bumps.

There are four motor mounts under the engine and transmission. There is a writeup on bay13 (volvospeed.com) on how to replace the right side mount. I'm not sure why the writeup only covers this one of the four mounts - it may be that this one is more problematic?
