Can tires make a difference? S70

Howdy all!

Was wondering if a diffferent tire on my stock 16" rims could make a big ride quality change. Currently I have Michellin MXV4s(205/55/R16) on my T5 and she rides very harsh. Wondering if another tire and maybe higher sidewall could make a big difference?

Have a bad disc in my back and it is not dealing with the ride well. So if there is no better option, I guess I'll have to sell.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you are going near Boston, let me know. I'd be willing to let you try a set of 15" wheels, and would be willing to trade a set of 15" alloy wheels for yours if they are straight. I would be willing to pay you the difference in wheel prices if there is one.

Our sedan has a nice ride.

Have you tried a the reduuced tire pressure? The tire pressure suggestion on my t-5 has two recommendations. I have noticed that my T-5 is very sensitive to tire pressure and the ride gets much softer when I run at a lower pressure (32 psi) then at the higher pressure (35 psi).

You could consider Goodyear Assurance Comfortred tires. The P205/55R16 size is "H" speed rated and they are getting decent reviews for ride comfort at tirerack.com.......... I put a set of these on my 1995 850 and was amazed at the improvement in the ride. (I am not an aggressive driver). Goodyear advertises that you can return them within 30 days if you are not satisfied, but you have to pick another tire to replace them with - not a money back guarantee. I've heard that the T5 suspension is pretty stiff, but they should certianly be significantly softer than the MXV4's you are riding on now. This tire will probably give you the softest ride of any "H" speed rated tire.
They are priced around $100 each ($92 at tirerack.com)

Hi Yo Han,

Go down to 15" rims and get some 185/65-15. Don't by any less than H speed rating though. Even though a T rating will be softer, it is much less safe.

If, however, you have 302MM front discs you cannot use a 15" rim, and you may be stuck with 205-55/16.
