permissable tire wear V70-XC70

Sidewall cut renders my tire useless. Yes, I know, all four. Just before I do this though, what is the allowable tread wear permiting one or two tire replacement ? The tires are quite new .
Sad and dejected 98 V 70

permissable tire wear V70-XC70

Hi, maybe it's a little late for this, but a new tire can be "shaved" to any tread depth by a tire shop that prepares competition tires. Street tires are often shaved down to 50% of tread depth for a performance gain in classes where these tires are required.

Just a thought,

Mark

You really don't tell us that your V 70 is AWD.

If it is just FWD, move the tire with the least tread to the rear and move it from side to side each tire rotation. Rotate the remaining tires in a circular pattern using the positions left open after the "rear" tire is swapped.

My Volvo dealer mechanic turned indie infomred me that all tires must be within 2/32 tread depth of one another, must also as you know be same brand, model, size and load rating. Also tire with most tread within the 2/32 limit should be on the front.

You may be able to work two of yoor current three good tires in a rotation mix once your new four get to same tread depth

happened to me V70-XC70

at 26K.

3 tires are OEM Michelin, 4th tire is Lemans:

http://www.mastercare-usa.com/tires/catalog/lemans-touring.jsp

At Firestonre dealer for very low price (around $45 each).

Then the OEM wears out at 40K (slippery when wet etc.), so the remaining 3 were replaced with lemans as well: so now 1 tire at 30K and 3 tires at 10K old.
Problem is when the old tire is at thr front after a tire rotation, car pulls slightly to one side (not much but noticeable).
However, when the old tire is in the rear no problem car drives straight.

From the tire experts, if the DIFFERENCE (please note that it is the DIFF not the absolute wear) in treadwear is less than 20% then acceptable. If you have a regular FWD not an issue.

Uneven treads for an AWD is not a good idea (accelerated wear on the AWD system).

What do you mean all four? V70-XC70

What do you mean all four tires need to be replaced if just one is damaged? Can you not just replace one on a V70? Just curious.

Sorry, AWD requires 4 if under an allowable limit of wear.I just don't know that dimension allowance.
