Deceleration 850

Sometimes when driving, I let off on the gas pedal and the car does not decelerate. It continues the same speed until I hit the break.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Once my mom's Ford Explorer did that, the accelerator was getting stuck under the floor mat. She had a heavy duty floor mat that was very thick.

Deceleration 850

Hi

What model and year?

- check codes
- clean the throttle body
- make sure the throttle cable/pedal aren't sticking
- check for vacuum leaks

What engine speed does it idle? If you rev it in neutral do the revs drop back or stay high?

Just a few questions...
Matt

Deceleration 850

Sorry to hijack the thread, but as a further question to this subject. Does anyone know if the de-acel function on the 850s is controlled by the ECU and is it run thru control of the throttle plate or thru an air bypass? I find on my R (the TB is clean) that I will hang revs between shifts instead of a more rapid fall off like some of my other cars.

Thanks

One cause could be a dirty throttle body. Do you feel the pedal sticking?
If so, clean the throttle body.

No the pedal does not appear to be sticking.
On start up sometimes, the engine feels like it is racing and
just wants to just go! That's not good.

I'm not sure if the two problems are related.

i would start by removing the throttle body cover and cleaning the whole mechanism. carb cleaner followed by wd 40 works great. mike

Check for vacuum leaks if the T/B cleaning does not work.
