Tranny flush 850

Hi, all,

I got ready to flush my 99 V70 (non turbo) with ~62K miles but found the hose is not connected to the radiator with a clip as in my 95 850. Can anyone explain to me how the hose is connected? Are there any cautions that I should take when dis- and re-connect the hose? Any parts should I prepare? Seems to me the hose is plugged into the radiator (with a green plastic thing - bushing?). Thank you.

Another question is: is the procedure for doing tranny flush the same for both 850 and V70? Thank you.

Best,

Puhong

The green plastic clip needs to be compressed. I like to wrap a piece of string around it close to the connector and then push in to release it and then wiggle and pull the hose out. It is definately more reuaable than the old clip.

      Larry,

Thanks a lot for your input. Just wonder at what mileage you did your tranny flush.

      Best,

      Puhong

        Puhong,
I flush with synthhetic (mobil 1 or Amsoil) between 30 & 40K miles. Never have seen dark fluid or had burned smell on mine. It's expensive until you consider the alternative.

          Larry,

          Thank you for your input.

How many miles have you put on your car since the tranny flush? For synthetic ATF, how often does one have to change it? I found the Mobil 1 systhetic AFT at our local Autozone store ($5/quart, no very bad price if the synthetic can last twice longer than the regular ATF.). I think I am going to go for synthetic. How many quarts did you use for the flush? I bought the dino ATF last week. Do you think I should use the dino ATF to flush the tranny first? Thanks.

          Best regards,

          Puhong

It would do no harm to flush with the dino first. Usually, by quart 12, the fluid is running clear and you are done. The Syn also has much better resistance to burning and lots of claims of improved mileage have been posted. Happy flushing.
Be sure to move the shift lever thru reverse and the gears near the end of the flush to clean out all areas.
