Power window switch failure/replacement?!? 850

Drivers window switch is on the blink 1995 GLT wagon...only when puting window up however, and usually (as of late)if I really press hard it works, or if I apply pressue to the left side, it'll work- hhmmm...

Yeah I know, time to replace it...so how do I go about doing that??? I always did what I could to my 240/740's, but is this a gig for the dealer or the local, reputable indy shop?

THanks- Mike!

The window switch can be repaired with a pair of twesers and a small screw driver or pic.The rocker part of the switch can be carefully popped upward, exposing the two contact levers inside.Remove the two levers and clean the points inside with contact cleaner.Reinstall the levers and carefully snap the rocker back in the correct position. This repair can be done with the switch assembly still in the console and the battery disconnected.
Good luck, and remeber Volvo in swedish means "I Roll".Blair, retired volvo Tech

Mike, try this. Get an old fashioned wooden spring clip clothespin. Put some friction tape on the outside of the jaws and insert the jaw into the switch opening from the top. You should be able to get enough grip to pull the switch out.

A new switch assembly is about $150, comes with wiring harness. It's easy to replace, just remove the center console and take out the old switch and harness, put in the new one.

Your '95 should be the same as my '97, which I did two years ago.

    Mike, mine is a 1998 V70 850

so not sure the procedure is the same.

Bad news: the switch cost me some ? 150.00

Good news: it is a Do-it-yourself item. Some books say you have the remove to door panel etc. which can take up to 1-1/2 hours.

I did this by GENTLY prying the switch up (using rubber glove and a soft-end screwdriver to LIFT the switch up, then putting the new one in is straightforward.
