HELP! Coolant Leak & Black splatter -missing 6Nm cap (850 turbo '97) 850 1997

Just had my 850 turbo (97) in for Oil Change & ABS/Tracs Lights on intermittantly.
They informed me I needed a new ABC Controller box. I understood from Brickboard that these all fail anytime after 67000miles. Which mine is slightly over that.. OK so I ate the $500 part + 2 hr labor.

Picked up the car next morning. Son noticed black splatter on passanger side mirror and near passanger wheel area. I said, "That's odd. They said they washed it"

Drove home (approx 9 miles) then another 4 miles. Parked car.. kids noticed.. Coolant flowing ALOT from under front passanger wheel area. Litterally a gallon or so of it. Didn't appear cloudy or even dirty.

I popped hood .. noticed near the resivour a nob like thing - Though looked odd like a cap or hose was missing. Later.. discovered this is where the A/C "6Nm" cap goes. (they did check the A/C when in shop)

Fluid looked a bit low in the Coolant resivour.. I filled a little H2O in there. Problem didn't re-occur. But called Volvo & had them tow to shop.

They found nothing. And Clearly "quietly" put the missing cap back on.. and washed my car to get the black crud off... (Which by the way didn't come off!)

Any guesses as to what's going on here.
They claim: All hoses are on ok, pressure tested OK.. no sticky residue, ????

Is is time for me to trade this puppy in>
Help!
If anyone has a clue I'd appreciate any help.

    HELP! Coolant Leak & Black splatter -missing 6Nm cap (850 turbo '97) 850 1997

    Couple of issues:

The black "stuff" that won't wash off. Could that have been tar? There is no zip code in your profile so we don't know what part of the country you are from.

The AC cap being off will not cause any harm. That is a dust cover so the valve area stays clean.

The coolant all over the driveway? That is a problem! You could have a faulty thermometer or a bad water pump. Something forced water out of your cooling system through the reservoir over flow hose. That needs to be diagnosed. BTW, adding plain water is OK, but winter is coming... When you find out what the problem is, be sure to have the system flushed.

    hi,
you sure it wasent just normal a/c condensation you saw dripping under your car?
if there was a "gallon" of it on the ground then the resovoir must also have been low by a "gallon" ,was it? if the shop pressure tested the cooling system it should be ok.
the cap missing off the a/c port and the black stuff have got nothing to do with anything, why do you want to trade it in if you have just paid for a new abs ecu? then someone else gets the beneift.

    steve.

yes, the black splatter could in fact be tar (as the road near my kid's school is being patched) but... why only on that side of the car? dunno??

RE: whether coolant or a/c condensation..
Sure as heck looked like coolant to me.
      yellowish/green in color
      not cloudy or mucked up
When I filled up the resevour w/ h2o it took about 1/2gal

As I told my friend.. I love this car.. but really have had problems w/ this volvo dealer. Multiple times to get anything fixed and costly when repairs are needed.

Maybe that comes from living outside of the "Motor City" most cars here are American. There are 2 volvo dealers w/in 1 hr of me. and I hear another opened slightly further away.

I really have no clue - Volvo kinda shrugged their shoulders at me and sent me on my way.

I'll take what ever suggestions I can get -
