Check your Motor mount bushings!!!! V70-XC70 1998

I thought I had a bad right side CV joint as on hard left turns accelerating from start the car would kind of Thumpty thump.........when I got underneath the motor mount near the crankshaft pulley and the upper big bushing mount near the cam cover were both Broken in the rubber!!!! I can manage to wiggle the engine with some good hand thrust. I fugure the engine was "lifting" on acceleration and turns causing the CV joints to go too far! I plan to replace this week..........I'll update all on the results!!!

    Thanks for the tip picklesnouts.

I replace the lower engine mount on my 1999 V70R on Saturday. I ordered the part from FCPGroton for 50 bucks. I replaced it in less than an hour, and no more clicking.

I was getting a clicking CV joint type of sound sometimes upon accelaration. I noticed the sound going over bumps sometimes also. I decided to take a chance, and replace the lower motor mount. It had cracked on the underside, the crack could not be seen until the motor mount had been removed. The new part raised the passenger side of the engine by an inch or so, just as picklesnouts said. No more clicking!

    What a relief!

Let me know how this goes. I have a similiar problem when making turns. Sort of a jerk jerk jerk, like something is momentarly binding. I have had the wheel bearings, strut mounts, CV joints, Drive Axles, Drive shaft, engine mounts, steering parts all checked. I was told the engine mounts are weak, but not broken. But maybe being weak enough would cause this problem.

      Dave.....I replaced the 2..... V70-XC70 1998

last night and its like I put a new trani in! Problem GONE! Nice and smooth. Whats amazing is how much that passenger side mount actually "collapsed" from compression!!!! The new one lifted the engine about 1 inch higher from where the old one was. If your car has the original mount (98).....I would replace it! That rubber clearly compress's and fatigues!!! I'm glad I didn;t spring for the money and time to install a CV axle that I didn't need! The procedure is on Bay13 for that particular mount!

The Bay13 only shows replacing the passenger side mount. Is the drivers side similiar? How long did each one take to replace? Also, where did you get the replacement mounts? Is this a dealer part? Or, can you get them from NAPA, etc.?

        Thanks!

        Dave
