Sooty exhaust V70-XC70 1999

I have just purchased a v70 t5 with 38k miles. I notice that the exhaust tailpipe is very sooty. Is this a sign of trouble or fairly normal.

    2 740 NAs = clean tail pipes
    2 740 Turbos = sooty pipes
    3 850 - 2 NA, 1 Turbo = sooty pipes

    No running problems, good mileage, no emissions testing problems.

    My 99 S70 has a sooty exhaust as well. Doesn't burn oil, runs like a champ, 0 problems, 122,000 miles. I thought the same thing. I just clean it now and then.
