850 Does not turnover 850

My 95' 850 GLT, manual will not turnover. All dash light come on, the battery appears to be OK (tested it with voltage meter), but I can't get the engine to turn at all. I do have what I think is a louder than usual "hum" coming from the solenoid? or starter relay? (it sits on top of the engine near the front with a plastic coweling over it.) I can't even jump this car. I don't appear to get spark when I attach the ground side of the jumper cable. Maybe incorrectly, this leads me to believe there may be a problem with the battery groung wire - easy enough to clean and check. I had to push it (manual) and pop the clutch to get it running.

If I'm off base with any of this, or anyone has anything else they can suggest to check, I would appreciate it.

Sounds like you already located the issue. If the starter was humming but not moving, what does that tell you? It is getting power...maybe either the starter or selenoid is frozen.

Check the easy to fix solutions first and then look at the difficult.

Thanks for the response. If I've learned one thing - start simple. The connections appear to be good. Should I be able to short the starter in this car to see if it engages? When I do, I get a spark, but no "bark" indicating it is working. The starter connections appear next to impossible to get to without removing the fan.
