Oil leak from turbo return pipe???? 850

My 850 turbo has started major oil leak. I thought it might be the infamous rear main seal but the flywheel & ring gear look clean. Then I thought it must be a bad oil pan gasket or crack, so cleaned everything off with a gas soaked rag. Nothing until I rev the engine hard, then I get rapid drips from the larger (return?) oil pipe from the turbo where it enters the engine. It did not seem loose, but I was too cautious to shake it hard. What gives here? I don't see how the return pipe is attached to the motor, it just seems to poke in without a clamp or anything?.

Thanks guys, sounds like a simple enough job. Is there some sort of PCV valve blocked up that I should be looking for that might have caused these O-rings to blow. I thought the Turbos didn,t have a flame trap?

Less than $10 in parts and 30 - 45 minutes and you're done. You'll need a new O-ring (tube to pan), gasket (tube flange to turbo), red RTV for the O-ring and a long hex wrench (I used a shorter one and vise grips to hold it)

The only snag I had was one of the coolant pipes on the turbo was positioned in a way that it blocked me getting the oil return pipe off once it's two bolts were removed. I had to loosen the coolant pipe banjo bolt, scoot it over just a hair then tighten it back up.

I did this work early last year and am still running drip free.

As always, use ramps or jackstands. Don't get under the car supported by the tire changing jack.

Check the link in the other post for more info.

    Erwin
