Does your S70 also slightly wander to the right on highways? S70 1999

My S70, despite 3 alignments, very slightly pulls to the right on most highways. When the highway inclines to the left however, which isn't all that frequent, the car very slightly pulls to the left.

Is this normal and related to the crown of the road (i.e. the car wants to go down)?

Do all S70s tend to drift to the right on highways?

TIA,

    This happened to me...turned out S70 1999

    1. tire pressure on one tire is R Front 34 and L Front is 37 psi.

    2. I had a puncture and changed a tire (3 tires 20K miles old and a new one on the right).

Even the slightest amount of uneven tire tread can do this.

So check both #1 and #2 above.

    Let us know.

I am new to Volvo's but I am not new to engineering, a well set up car WILL follow the camber of the road. This is more noticable with wider tyres.

I have the same problem with my Volvo T5. I am going to be checking it on a quiet side street like this...

1.Drive down the road, keeping to one side of the road (say the south side) and make a note of how the car wanders.

2.Now drive UP the same road, keeping to the side you were on before (South) and note the wander.

Which ever direction you drive, the car should wander to the lowest side of the road, if not, there is a fault.

    Check:
    Tyre pressures,
    Tyre types,
    Tyre sizes,
    Tracking,
    and so on

This is not drifting, you are following the road crown. Roads are typically peaked in the center for drainage. If you were in the left lane and it pulled right or drove straight ahead, now you are drifting right. This is usually caused by a bad tire or alignment.

Some tires are more sensitive to following the road crown than others, dunno why. You can also try different tire pressures. I believe if you go down a couple of pounds the crowning will diminish.

I have the same problem but my friend who works at a tire shop said when they align cars they do it so it will drift a bit to the right. It is done so that if someone where to fall asleep at the wheel they would not drift into head on traffic but to the shoulder.

I REALLY doubt that. Thats downright dangerous. My car drives straight as an arrow down the road, almost drives itself, and thats how its supposed to be. The crown of the road doesn't really effect my car either.

I agree with DG above in all respects. No problems with 'drivability' in any way with our '98 S70.

            No problems with mine either.

If the road has a pronounced crown the car will mildly track to the low side.

Usually it tracks straight and requires little or no driver correction.

It sounds like you've rounded up the usual suspects.

Oh and heres another thought, how are your engine/trans mounts? I know its only during acceleration that those really make a noticable difference, but its a possibility. When my upper engine mount went, the torque steer was magnified like 50 times, and the car would be all over the place.

            try a different alignment shop!!!

Maybe a dealer or an import specialist.

All cars should drive dead on straight. IF your steering seems a little off center or pulling to one side or another you will need an alignment.

I have driven on all kinds of roads and i dont think the type of roads matters.
