Chaging Headlight bulbs 850 1993

Hi all, I just bought a 1993 Volvo 850 GLT and I can't figure out how to change the head light bulbs. If anyhow could help me out, the car did not come w/ an owner manual.

Thanks
Kidd

hello, I'm pretty much car illiterate and I have done this several times. There is a a grey or black cap that you need to twist off first to get to the light. Once you buy the replacement bulb, you will see how it fits on.

Open the hood and look at the back of the headlight case. Your car can have either a single lo/high bulb or individual lo beam and high beam bulbs on each side. In either case you will notice the wiring harness going into the back of the light housing in a round fitting. If you turn the round fitting a quarter of a turn it should loosen and you can pull it straight back and out. The bulb will just plug into the prongs on the inner side of the round fitting. NOTE: DO NOT TOUCH THE BULB WITH YOUR BARE SKIN as the oils in your skin will cause it to explode. Care should be taken to handle the bulbs in a way that will avoid direct contact with the glass of the bulb, a clean colth can be used. Once you have replaced the bulb, put the round fixture back in the rear of the light housing and turn to secure. If you have the two light unit, make sure that you get the low beam in the correct location. It will be the bulb with a small coating on the tip.

Refer to your owners manual as it does explain this process rather well.

    Oliver
