I have a 2001 XC, ASH Gold in color, 75K with an extended warantee. The trim strips next to the luggage rack have fadded and look terrible. What is an easy fix? Some people on the brickboard say they are under warantee. My dealer says they are not. What should I do?

On my V70 R, as I suppose, on all the 70-series wagons, there's a black rubber-coated steel strip across the bottom of the rear window..a finisher strip. When I asked the dealer to replace it under warranty since the steel inside was rusting an bubbling up the rubber, he said that was an "appearance only" item, and as such was not covered...but good luck with yours!

yes there was a know problem with these trim strips it was to do with a faulty painting process that caused them to fade prematurly, so yes they are under warrenty BUT volvo warrenty is normaly 3 years or 100,000 miles so you may well be out of warrnety anyway now depending on what month you bought your car. talk to your dealer he may meet you part way in regards to cost if outside warrnety.

I asked the dealer the very same question last week. The answer has to do with mileage??? Doesn't make much sense to me, but I'll deal with it. I suppose that if I had less than 50k they might warrantee them. As it is, I'll paint them flat black. Either that or do nothing at all...
