Break pedal, light and trip computer. V70-XC70 1998

I have just bought my car and find this site very interesting, even though sitting in Norway. I learn a great deal about my "new" 98 V70. When i turn off the egnition (wrong spelling? Pull out the key completly) the break lights still light upp when i am pressing the breakpedal, and the digital clock and trip counter are still showing. It was not like this om my old car. Can anyone tell me if its suposed to be like this?

My Car does not have a trip computer installed, but i can se behind the "blind plate" where the trip computer switch is supposed to fit that the wiering is all there. Is it enough for me to aquire the switch for the tripcomputer, and then it will work, or do somthing else have to be done?

I hope someone can answer these questions.

Thanks for a realy good site!

Christian

I believe that you need a switch and a software change to your ECU. In the states, the software upgrade is very expensive ~ $300 U.S but the switch is reasonable.

    BRAKE, a stopping device
Break, to separate into parts with suddenness or violence

Forgive the professor, he knows not what he does - the twerp.

If your car came without a trip computer, then there is no cheap way to give yourself one. The wiring may be there, but the computer is not.

As for the brake light coming on with the key out, that is normal in the USA.
