To extend warranty or not to extend... S80 2001

Thinking of whether to get VIP or similiar extended warranty for my T6 about to go off factory warranty. Figure it will cost about $1K - $2K.

Opinions anybody? ;)

For the reliability curious, in 25K (yeah, not driven much) / 4 yrs service record includes:
* electrical problems fixed (a couple)
* mystery electrical problems not fixed multiple times (5), including car insisting on unlocking itself (happens intermittently, dealer cannot reproduce --> cannot fix)
* both front anti-roll bar links replaced
* front wheel hub replaced

Thanks

To extend warranty or not to extend... S80 2001

The extended warranty I purchased on my S80 was the best buy I ever made. The contract cost me $1,860.00, and the extended contract company paid more than $22,000.00 for repairs. The extended warranty company called me and offered me a complete refund if I would go away with my S80. When they hit $22,000.00, they advised that their payout exceeded the market value of my car and I was on my own for the next round. The first bill o me was $2.400.00. This car is a bottomless pit. Absolute crap.

To extend warranty or not to extend... S80 2001

I have an extended warranty, to cover my 2000 S80 T6 from 50 to 100K miles. I got for about $1800 from Warranty-by-Net.

I have used the warranty twice (it worked very well) for a $500 repair and a $900 repair. It will take three or four major repairs for me to break even. Most cars don't have that many major repairs between 50 and 100 K miles. If I were to do it again, I would shop for a less expensive power train warranty, since those repairs could be around $3000 and I would bet that I would have no more than two or three major repairs between 50 and 100K miles.

To extend warranty or not to extend... S80 2001

Got my V70 R AWD from a dealer at about 80,000KM,( 50,000MI) and was given a $50.00 deductible version of the VIP warranty to 160,000KM as an inducement to buy, along with 1.8% financing for 3 years.

So far, the main front-rear propshaft assy has been replaced, as have the sunroof guides, front steering links, a stabilizer link, replacement of faulty tailgate latch unit, and faulty drivers' power window switch pack.

This recounting reminds me that after the car sits all night with a heavy rain during the night, I often find a few drips coming down at left front corner of opening in the headliner in the morning when I round the first corner!..despite once having the little drain pipes that run down inside the A-pillars checked.

In general I've found the warranties have paid off...indeed I've found some dealers play a good warranty game! They poke around, find something I have not mentioned, get the service advisor to call in a claim to VIP, advisor calls me and tells me what they've found and assure me it'll be covered..when I pick up the car the item is described on the work order as " customer complained about grinding sound in left front..diagnosed as faulty XYZ." Can this be a symptom of a dealership with dwindling business having to fight for every item they can possibly spend time on?

If the wagon were a new 245, or 745, I might avoid the extended warranty but the v70? Especially a vehicle as complex as the R AWD.

YES, get it.
Very soon your ABS/STC control unit will go out $700.00 to $800.00.
Then the ETS will go out that is about $1,000.00.
These have been known to to out in about 5 yrs. or about 80,000 miles.
