Is this car worth a second thought of buying? 850

Hi, all,

I saw a 96 850R wagon with about 100k miles on the clock over the weekend. The car, IMO, was apparently abused (or at least not maintained properly). The car's turbo was dead, top engine mount was broken (or missing), there was dripping fluids under the car, etc. And the salesperson could not provide me any maintenance records. My question is: Is this car worth a second thought if the dealer gets the turbo fixed? How much will cost to fix all the problems named above? Your opinions will be highly appreciated. Thank you

Best,

Puhong

How bad do you need an expensive hobby?

Puhong,

I can only agree with what has been written by the others, unless you have a lot of Volvo knowledge and the time to do the work yourself!

Thanks all for your sincere advice. I will forget about this car. The reason I posted this message was because the salesperson called me back offering to fix the turbocharger. Anyway, I am sure there are many other problems that I didn't see, because I was very disappointed when I found that turbo was dead and no maintenance records. Thanks all again.

Have a great day,

Puhong

Plan on spending $1000 to $1500 on a Volvo that looks like it DOSEN'T need anything when you see it. That car- forget it.

Assuming you are seriously considering this car-WALK AWAY from it. I've junked better cars than that. You can see that this car has had absolutly NO maintenance so why would you be interested at all.

You did not say how much he wants for the car, but IMO, why do you want to buy a money pit? It sounds like the obvious problems are substantial $$$$$ and there are probably other problems that may not be obvious to the casual eye.
