Volvo V70 T5 - Great mileage V70-XC70

Just thought I would put a post on here as to my Volvo V70 2001 Mileage as it has been great. I have a 5 speed which ROCKs. I recently drove from NH to Raleigh, NC as I am moving down here. I averaged (According to the trip computer and my own caculations backed it up) 32.3 mpg. I was using 92 octane most of the trip and average about 70-75 on I-95 South. I think this is pretty impressive given the performance and size of the vehicle. No doubt that the 5 speed helps in the perfomance and mileage category. I also use Mobil 1 synthetic.

My 99 S70 which was driven as well averaged about 34 but this was only my caculations as it doesn't have a trip computer.

Volvo V70 2.4 se (170 bhp)...better mileage!! V70-XC70

In response to your great mileage i too have a V70,although its only the non-turbo type,i have managed a few modifications in the last couple of weeks mainly accessories, these being darkened windows, roof spoiler and reversing sensors, internal fire extinguisher, rear net basket and a volvo sub-woofer.The engine is the standard 2.4 170bhp(UK spec)but i have added the K&N air filter, changed the oil(Q8 5w40 fully synthetic oil) and put in Slick 50.This has improved my mpg around town and on long runs by about 2-3 mpg.The car has done just under 44000 miles on a 02 plate(sorry manufactured 2002).I will kep you posted of any other info and mods as they happen...will get some photos on here for you all to ogle at!! ciao HESH

Volvo V70 T5 - Great mileage V70-XC70

After owning a '92 745 and '94 945T (awful mileage) my 1998 V70 T5A has gotten up to 33.5 mpg ONLY IF driven like the NA 745. This has been quite a pleasant surprise punctuated by the thrill of the 60-80 mph roll-ons required when passing cars on a frequently travelled Kentucky scenic byway. The V70 T5 is new to me. I feel this motor really shines during the roll-on acceleration from highway speed. I usually drive this car trying to match wits with the avg. mpg trip computer setting. I melt into the ergonomically perfect seats with the excellent sound system CRANKED and I am delighted when I happen upon a car to pass. I hit the SPORT setting on the transmission and then the accelerator. The next few seconds are visual and kinesthetic perceptual magic. Truly this is not my father's Volvo. I only hope that by virtue of its Volvo heritage, that it is reliable enough to stick around for years more magic.
