Lights turning off- is this a bug or a feature? S70 1998

So, I was dropping the kids off at daycare this morning. I left the car running ('98 S70) in Park with the parking brake and light switch on.

When I came out after a couple minutes, I noticed the tailights and front corner lamps were not lit, but the headlights were (I've got the DRLs disabled via the screw adjustment on the switch.) So, my question is, do the lights automatically turn off after a period of time while the vehicle is in park/the brake is engaged? I recycled the switch and all the lights came on as normal.
Is this a "feature," or do I maybe have a flaky switch?

Thanks.

I should bite my tongue, but in this case, I cannot.

Many sad tales begin with a car left running with the keys in it.

You can do better than that.

BTW, in our instance, the case of the light switch broke open, and it was possible to repair the switch.

Lights turning off- is this a bug or a feature? S70 1998

A few weeks ago the headlights on my 98 S70 started going out intermittently while driving. The next morning I noticed that jiggling the switch while in the on position made the lights flicker. Replacement at the dealer cost about $100 (about $60 for the part). The service guy at the dealer commented that switch failures aren't all that unusual. My car had <65k mi at the time.

I would try playing with the switch while watching the lights to see if that is the problem.

I also recommend getting this fixed soon. I was really uncomfortable driving the family home the night I started losing my headlights!

Replace the switch yourself. Easy DIY job. Switch pulls out thru the front of the dash. Pry with plastic spatula. Clip in new switch.
