Rear seat folding arm rest S80 2001

I can not find anything in my owner's manual explaining how to fold this thing down. It appears to have something preventing it from working. It will start to open a couple of inches but will not go the rest of the way. I am reluctant to force it.

What am I doing wrong?

You have done nothing wrong, this is very common. The hinge is broken that can be replaced separte of the arm rest. experttech
