Nivomat Shocks 850 1994

I have a 94 Turbo Wagon with "sport Chassis option"& 1 rear shock is leaking at 150,000 km. (Handling was great before, and is still satisfactory). Volvo says Cdn$525 each for Nivomats.
Are the front shocks the same special thing i.e. "self levelling" with this option.
What will happen if I replace rear shocks and springs, but don't touch the front? Is there a cheaper aftermarket equivalent of Nivomat?
As I see it, my options are:
Try to find 1 or 2 second hand Nivomat rear shocks.
Buy second hand springs & shocks from wrecker and replace these with new Bilstein shocks if handling is too attrociously different from what it was.
Sell the damned car.
Any bright ideas please?

Check FCP Groton. Nivomats for a 780 are $200 each, half the dealer's price. You will need to replace both of them. 200,000 Km is about the normal life expectancy.

    yes...novimats are ridiculously expensive.

don't need to worry about fronts when replacing rear.

there are no aftermarket shock equivalent of novimats (altho kalmar union in the uk sells an uprated/stiffer set of novimats)

there are aftermarket shocks available that are normal shocks. however, u would need to replace the springs as well. oem shocks and oem springs from any 1994-1997 850 (or any fwd 1998-2000 v70 for that matter) would work fine.

shocks available include those from boge (oem), bilstien tc (similar to oem setting), bilstien hd, koni sport shock...

Post a message to the 960 board. 960s have the Nivomats and those folks will be able to tell ya where to get them cheaper than $500 a pop.
