AC Stopped Suddenly Today 850 1993

Hello Lads,

I jumped into my 93 850 GLT (69,000 miles)this morning, hit the AC switch, and nothing happened. The AC was running perfect yesterday, cycling on and off normally and blowing nice and cold. The previous owner had a new evaporator installed about a year ago.

I did a little searching on this site for information about a fuse, or a course for some troubleshooting, but I thought the participants here might offer some initial advice. Is there a fuse or relay to examine?

The radiator fan does not engage after hitting the AC switch.

The REC and AC lights have been flashing right after starting the engine and they flash again a minute or two later, but until now, the AC has been operating wonderfully.

I have a volt meter and a little know how, where do I begin?

AC diagnosis can be rather dicey. I'd leave that to the shop and then you do the repair yourself. No little things like fuses, voltmeters etc etc can diagnose such a complex system- especially if YOU dont know where the fault if. You're likely to cause more harm. I think given the sudden failure, its the EVAP. Unless you can verify he put a new one. Check the AC pressure too.If its gone, then you have a leak and its mechanical not electrical - big difference

Dude,

Well, the evaporator was definitley serviced a year and a half ago. I met that mechanic not too long after purchasing the car.

What I'm wondering about is the AC switch or the the AC relay, wherever that may be.

I switched on the AC, (the blower runs fine), and pulled the green and grey wired plug near the recharging valve. Jumping the wires did not engage the compressor.

I have checked the fuses, and spent hours searching the archives here for a solution.

Is there a depiction or description of the AC relay location on this site? I guess it's behind the glove box somewhere.

Anyhow, this has got to be an electrical snag. Probably the relay or the AC switch...right?

Everything ran perfect the day before.

...And I thank you for your concern.

did you check your blower fan, is there something stuck in it, was it squeeking, I replaced mine end of this winter it eventually just seized, I noticed those lights blinking right before. havent seen them blinking yet. I am having problems with my ac compressor just shutting down, blows cold air just fine but it isnt always cycling on and off, will just stay on then shut down. volvo says evap coil, im not buying it but doing it anyway.
