Lately the light for the ABS/Tracs has been coing on more regularly. I did not try to see if the ABS is working while the lights are on. The light turns off when I retsart my car to only come on at random.

I would also check the alternator. My ABS/TRACS light was coming on randomly - with a code of insufficient voltage to ABS unit. The problem was actually that the alternator was putting out too much voltage - 19V!

Your abs control module w tracs has or is about to fail. You can pay a repair person $475 for the abs module w tracs plus an hour or two of labor to correct this. I did search on the internet and found a fellow named Victor Rocha who repairs the module which your remove and express mail to him in California. He mails it back to you and your reinstall. My unit now works again. It cost me $130 plus espress postage each way last fall. I believe his e-mail address is vicrocha@earthlink.net. Directions are included on his website. If you are reasonably handy, you can do it yourself.

One of the tests for the ABS can be heard. After starting the car, when you approach 15+ mph, you will hear a click/clunk type of sound from the rear of the car. That is the ABS self test. If the ABS light comes on then, the test fails. Check your diag codes.
Remember, the brakes will still work, just no ABS.

I've always wondered what that sound was after the car was started and driven about a block at 15-20 mph. I'm sure others have wondered as well. Much appreciated....
