850 blower motor 850 1996

I own a '96 850 Turbo that I purchased new and have maintained well since I purchased it in Sept '96. The car currently has 116,000 miles and has recently developed a noise in the blower/fan motor when it is set on various settings while using the air conditioning. It doesn't make this noise all the time, but it will make this noise from time to time.
The air conditioning works fine but the fan motor makes a noise when running at certain speeds that sounds like a leaf or a piece of paper in the blower assembly. When I turn off the motor, the noise stops so it is either the assembly itself or a piece of debris in the system.
Has anyone had this type of problem with their 850 and if so, how did you solve this? Thanks, Fred.

It just dawned on me... you probably don't have a pollen filter. If you take off the cover in the engine compartment, 3 hex screws and the right wiper blade along with the drain tubes, access to the air intake will be free and clear. If you cannot see the leaf or trash, try a vacuum cleaner. Be gentle, you don't want to bend the fan blades. This is also a good time to clean everything in sight.
If you cannot find your noise source here, take the blower out following Bay 13 instructions.
Then get a filter and adapter from FCP.

Go to Bay 13 and see how to get access to the blower motor.

You may well have something that got sucked in through the pollen filter, so also check your pollen filter to see if it is still in one piece. Just bought one at the dealer today - $30.

I had the same problem and I replaced the blower motor unit. It will only get worse and noiser. It's not a super hard job, and the unit cost about 125 I think. Access is from the glove box area and should take about 2 hours without rushing.
